Service Information
Verona Braasch, age 104, of Gaylord passed away Monday, November 27, 2023, at Golden Hearts Assisted Living in Arlington.
Funeral Service will be Friday, December 1, 2023, 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, ALL at church.
Obituary
Verona Anna Marie Braasch was born on July 24, 1919, in Green Isle Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Henry and Selma (Boessling) Witthus. Verona was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. She received her education at country school.
On April 14, 1950, Verona was united in marriage to William “Bill” Braasch at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. Verona and Bill were blessed with two daughters. After their marriage the couple resided in Dryden Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, where they farmed for over 50 years. Verona was a loving mother and homemaker. Verona and Bill shared 70 years of marriage when Bill passed away on July 5, 2020.
Verona was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. In her younger years she taught Sunday School at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township.
Verona and Bill were very close and did everything together. They were members of several Square Dance Clubs including the Arlington Square Dance Club, Gaylord Square Dance Club, Polka Club of America and they enjoyed going to old time dances in New Ulm and Gibbon. They traveled and danced with many other groups in the area. Verona and Bill taught dancing lessons for many years. She enjoyed embroidering, knitting, and handiwork. Verona volunteered at the nursing home, the Sibley County Historical Society in Henderson, and many other local functions.
Verona passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Golden Hearts Assisted Living in Arlington at the age of 104 years. Blessed be her memory.
Verona is survived by her:
Daughter, Susan Rodewald and her husband, Paul of Red Wing, MN;
Grandchildren, Daniel Rodewald and his wife, Bobbie of Alexandria, MN;
Great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Rodewald and Erik Rodewald;
Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Verona was preceded in death by her Parents, Henry and Selma Witthus; Daughter, Patricia Ann Braasch; Brothers, Rutheford (Lavera, First Wife; Lucille, Second Wife) Witthus, and Allie (Esther) Witthus.
