Obituary

Wilbert “Bert” John Hahn was born on April 25, 1930, in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Alvin and Selma (Polzin) Hahn. Wilbert was baptized as an infant on May 18, 1930, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 2, 1944, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn, Minnesota. He received his education in Glencoe, Minnesota, and graduated with the Glencoe High School class of 1949. Recently, Wilbert was thrilled to attend his 76th High School Reunion.

Wilbert entered military service on January 16, 1952, and served his country with the United States Army. During his time in service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Occupational Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge on December 22, 1953.

Wilbert spent most of his life farming, while also working as a chemical application specialist for Green Giant, now Seneca Foods, in Glencoe for many years. His faith in Christ was central to his life, and he was deeply involved in his church community. He taught Sunday school for more than 30 years and served as chairman of the church council. Wilbert also devoted many years to mission work, traveling to Africa on numerous trips. He was a member of the New Auburn American Legion and VFW for over 20 years and proudly served on the Penn Township Board for several years.

Wilbert lived a life rooted in generosity, connections, and joy. He found simple pleasure in playing cards – especially cribbage and sheepshead – and in the quiet satisfaction of woodworking. He loved to travel, dance, and most of all, bring people together. A true pillar of the community, he hosted barn dances that welcomed everyone and raised scholarship funds for the local schools, always giving back without seeking recognition. He was a generous man who loved visiting with people, listening to their stories, and making everyone feel seen and valued. Caring deeply for others, he consistently put the needs of family, friends, and neighbors before his own, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and selfless love.

Wilbert passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 95 years, 8 months, and 18 days. Blessed be his memory.
