Zella E. Rettman

Obituary

Zella Ellen Rettman was born on July 13, 1927, in Stewart, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Martin and Lydia (Ebent) Woller. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, Minnesota. She received her education in Stewart and was a graduate of Stewart High School Class of 1945.

On August 29, 1946, Zella was united in marriage to Milan H. Rettman. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Morris and Mark. Zella and Milan resided in Glencoe and then relocated to the family farm in Lynn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. Zella and Milan shared 30 years of marriage, until the passing of Milan on November 17, 1976. Zella remained in Lynn Township for many years, then resided in Belle Plaine, Minnesota; most recently living in Hutchinson, Minnesota.

Zella was employed as a First Telephone Operator for Northwestern Bell, and Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing. She then began her career as an independent insurance agent for Acoma Lynn & Farmers Home Mutual Insurance Company, until retiring in 1989. She was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 906 Ladies Auxiliary in Hutchinson and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lynn Township. She was also a member of the McLeod County Association for Handicapped Citizens, representing Region 6 on the state board for four years.

Zella had a green thumb and a passion for gardening. She also enjoyed cooking, taking family photos, and using her video camera. Some of her favorite times were spent with her children, especially her grandchildren.

Zella passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at her home in Hutchinson, at the age of 91 years.

Great-Grandsons, Kian Francis, Rylan Francis, Sawyer Boehmke, Finn Boehmke;
Sister,  Leora Pittman of Hutchinson, MN;
Many other relatives and friends.

Zella was preceded in death by her Parents, Martin, and Lydia Woller; Husband, Milan Rettman; Son, Mark Rettman; Sisters, Quenna Hahn, Elvira Mielke; Brother, DuWayne Woller.
