Obituary
Ruthie Jean Rottum Hoseck was born on April 14, 1934 in Hendricks, Minnesota to Beulah (Ronning) and Leonard Rottum. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Ruthie and her four siblings spent their school years and graduated from Hendricks High School.
Ruthie was married to Douglas Hoseck and together they had four children. They lived in Brookings and Bryant, South Dakota before moving to Hector, Minnesota in 1957 where they have lived for 68 years. They were members of First Lutheran Church in Hector.
Ruthie was proud of her Scandinavian heritage and shared her family's culture, traditions, and recipes with others. She delighted in making each of her children and grandchildren's favorite! Especially, Swedish meatballs, famous mashed potatoes, lefse, rosettes, frosted molasses cookies, coffee cookies, and Scandinavian sweets, to name a few!
Mom and Grandma were her preferred titles! She loved every minute spent with grandchildren from playing Barbie's to baseball, to having them come for noon lunch during school, to Friday night slumber parties, to attending their games and events, to being very proud of their achievements as adults. She looked forward to the weekly updates and pictures of the great grandchildren of how they were growing, what they were doing at school or adventure they were on.
She enjoyed spending her time volunteering for school, church and community activities. Ruthie loved playing bridge, sewing and quilting, walking, traveling, reading, and puzzles. She especially treasured all of the cups of coffee and homemade treats shared with her many friends over the years!
Ruthie's hands were rarely still. She found joy in being useful. She lived a life of service - caring for her family and using her gifts for others. Whether sewing or quilting, baking or making meals, she provided comfort, love and beauty. She filled the lives of those around her with warmth and nourishment. Her hands were a testament to her grateful and generous heart.
Ruthie peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, two weeks before her 92nd birthday, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center, in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, her home since August 2025.
Blessed Be Her Memory.

My sincere condolences to all the Hosecks. So many memories. As a young child, wonderful smell of your kitchen when Ruth was making her delicious Carmel rolls and the anticipation of getting to eat one fresh out of the oven. When my mom was getting ready for her move to Plymouth, Ruth stopped by to see if she could help and instead she was talked into watching “My Cousin Vinny”. What a guilty pleasure to watch a movie at 10:30 in the morning! We had a wonderful day. A life well lived . . . She will be missed by so many.
