Obituary
Adeline Louise Hermine Litzau was born on March 6, 1921, in Transit Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Herman and Martha (Witt) Schultz. Adeline was baptized as an infant on April 3, 1921, by Reverend W. Striepe, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 5, 1936, by Reverend Peter Mueller both at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. Adeline received her education in Sibley County at the Transit Township Country School thru the 8th grade.
On May 22, 1946, Adeline was united in marriage to Melvin Litzau by Reverend W. F. Mueller at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Glencoe. Adeline and Melvin were blessed with three children, Larry, Jerelyn, and Lowell. Adeline was a loving mother and homemaker. Adeline and Melvin shared over 67 years of marriage when Melvin passed away on October 20, 2013. They sincerely enjoyed and appreciated each other and were rarely found apart.
Adeline was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township.
Adeline was a talented baker who enjoyed decorating elaborate cakes for weddings and other special occasions. She was known for her bountiful gardens, including a “pick your own” strawberry field. Even the inside of her home was filled with unique plants. For many years, she and Melvin took pride in meticulously cleaning the church and keeping the grounds at St. John’s, and Adeline’s beautiful fresh-cut floral arrangements often graced the sanctuary. Adeline enjoyed preserving her garden produce, processing farm-raised poultry, fishing, sewing, crafting, listening and dancing to polka music, and singing hymns. She was an amazing cook and graciously hosted many family gatherings. Her cream puffs, mashed potatoes with gravy, dressing, and many other made-from-scratch recipes are unmatched. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. Her sweet demeanor, ever-present smile, and reassuring giggle were a blessing to many.
Adeline was a resident of GlenFields Living With Care in Glencoe and passed away there on Friday, December 30, 2022, at the age of 101 years. Blessed be her memory.
