Allina “Lena” Laabs, age 98 of Winthrop passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Arlington.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, May 6th, 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township, Sibley County, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 6th, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Arrangements are with the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop.
Obituary
Allina Gertrude (Spiering) Laabs was born on January 4, 1917, in rural Winthrop, Minnesota. She was the daughter of August and Marie (Krueger) Spiering. Allina was baptized as an infant on January 26, 1917, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on February 16, 1930, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. She received her education in Gaylord.
On May 25, 1941, Allina was united in marriage to Edwin Laabs at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. This marriage was blessed with three children. Allina and Edwin lived on the homestead where they farmed in Transit Township. Allina and Edwin shared 64 years of marriage before Edwin passed away on November 6, 2005.
Allina was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church (Mountville), rural Gaylord.
Allina loved helping Edwin on the farm. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning, crocheting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Children, Darlene Schuette of Gaylord, MN,
Wayne Laabs of rural Winthrop, MN, and
Lois Winter of Arlington, MN;
Two Grandsons, David Winter and Michael Winter;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Allina was preceded in death by her Parents, August and Marie Spiering; Husband, Edwin Laabs; Sisters, Elsie (Art) Briese and Lydia (Walter) Friederichs; Brothers, Herbert (Adella) Spiering, and George Spiering; Sons-In-Law, Darrell Schuette and LeRoy Winter; Sisters-In-Law, Olga (Raymond) Sylvester, Alma (Fred) Furst and Lydia (Victor) Woller.
