Obituary

Arden Paul Dale Johnson was born January 30, 1936, in New Ulm, Minnesota. He was the son of Paul and Juanitta (Lunderborg) Johnson. Arden was baptized as an infant at Clear Lake Lutheran Church in Gibbon, Minnesota, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth.  He attended elementary school at a country school in Lafayette and continued his education in Winthrop and was a graduate of the Winthrop High School Class of 1955.

On March 12, 1956, Arden entered active service and served his country in the United States Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal. Arden was Honorably Discharged on December 2, 1962, and achieved the rank of SP3. The honor for serving his country was undeniable.

On March 25, 1974 he was united in marriage to Christy Overson. Together they raised three daughters, Tammy Jean, April Ann, and Jessica Lynn. Arden was a member of First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #314 in Winthrop.

Arden enjoyed fishing, yard work, hunting in Wyoming for 22 years, playing cards and watching his grandchildren’s ball games. He was a faithful Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan but his true passion was “the farm”. His work ethic, determination, and fixing skills were top notch. He enjoyed learning about his ancestry and was always eager to share stories of growing up with his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His mind was sharp, his wit was quick, and he loved hard.

Arden passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at his home in Winthrop at the age of 86. He will be dearly missed.  Blessed be his memory.

Arden is survived by his:
Wife,               Christy Johnson of Winthrop, MN;
Children,         Tammy Giere and her husband, Curt of Monument, CO,
                        April Schmidt and her husband, Jeff of Gaylord, MN,
                        Jessie Schaefer and her husband, Jason of Mankato, MN;
Grandchildren,  Jack Giere, Travis (Sami Carpenter), Paul and Jake Schmidt, Kellen and Azlee Schaefer;
Sister, Marjorie Bullemer and her husband, Winston of Hopkins, MN;
Sister-in-law, Marlys Johnson of Brooklyn Center, MN;
Brothers-in-law, Duane Woehler of Gaylord, MN, and Wayne (Colleen) Overson of Green Isle, MN;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Arden was preceded in death by his Parents, Paul and Juanitta Johnson; Brother, Jerome Johnson; In-law’s, Clayton and Caroline Overson; Sister-in-law, Lois Woehler.

    Saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and neighbor. Always enjoyed my visit and friendly waves to each others while on our lawn mowers.
    My sympathy to the family.

      You have always been a great neighbor as well, Steve. Dad would call and say “Steve mowed today, I better get out and mow too”. Thank you for the kind words.

    I worked with Ardy for a number of years at the Supersweet Feeds plant in New Ulm. He was always a hard-working and dependable man. He was quick to flash a smile, and enjoyable to talk to.

    My prayers to his Family.
