Arnold Schultz Jr., age 84, husband of Darlene (Dorman) Burbeck, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2016, 11:00 A.M., at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2016, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., one hour prior the service at the church.
Obituary
Arnold John Schultz Jr. was born on January 24, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Arnold John and Ragnhild (Vogelberg) Schultz. Arnold was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. He received his education in Patchogue, New York, and was a graduate of the Patchogue High School. Arnold furthered his education by attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, receiving a degree in English Literature and also attending the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, receiving a Master’s Degree in 14th Century English Literature. He entered active military service in the United States Army in 1956, and served his country as a PFC in Europe. Arnold received an Honorable Discharge in 1958.
On October 6, 1990, Arnold was united in marriage to Darlene (Dorman) Burbeck at Grace Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Minnesota. Arnold and Darlene shared over 25 years of marriage.
Arnold was self-employed as an inventor. He taught a computer how to understand English through syntax. Arnold’s work won attention in the Star Tribune newspaper, Twin Cities Business Monthly magazine, where they referred to Arnold as “The Google Stalker” and won a national Comdex Award for the best new software. Also an IBM paper wrote an article introducing “Syntactica” (Arnold’s linguistic invention) stating that it was the only program that could understand the English language. Arnold also had an influence in getting the Chinese to reopen their stock market in 1990.
Arnold was a social man who enjoyed eating at restaurants and having coffee with others. He loved politics/news, reading, writing, classical music and the library. Arnold cherished the time spent with Darlene, his family, friends and dogs.
Arnold passed away on February 3, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 84 years and 10 days.
