Avis Johnson

Obituary

Avis Jean Johnson was born on April 26, 1928, in Kasson, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Annetta (Hillested) Peterson. Avis was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith in Mantorville, Minnesota, in 1976; Avis was baptized as an adult at Assembly of God Church in Willmar, Minnesota. She received her education in Mantorville, Minnesota.

On August 31, 1946, Avis was united in marriage to Roy Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with six daughters, Linda, Sue, Judy, Karen, Roxann, and Renae. Avis and Roy resided in Willmar, and Kandiyohi, Minnesota. Avis and Roy shared 24 years of marriage until Roy passed away in 1970. After retiring, Avis moved to Hutchinson in January of 1989, to be closer to her loving family.

Avis was employed at Willmar State Hospital in Willmar, as the Dining Hall Supervisor. Avis retired in 1988, after 35 years of service. Avis was a member of Riverside Church (formerly Riverside Assembly of God).

Avis enjoyed sewing, bowling, camping at places such as, Diamond Lake, Green Lake, Collinwood Lake and Lake Geneva Christian Center in Alexandria, Minnesota. (She was still driving her motor home camping at 80 years old). She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school for 11 years at Riverside Assembly of God in Hutchinson. She especially loved serving the Lord and loved him with all her heart.

Avis passed away on June 29, 2016, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, at the age of 88 years.
