Obituary
Beverly Ann “Bev” Loftness was born December 17, 1936, in Brownton, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Leonard and Esther “Dolly” (Bulau) Newcomb. Bev was baptized on March 24, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, and confirmed in her faith there at age 11. She grew up on a farm near Brownton, and graduated with the Class of 1954 from the Brownton High School.
On September 22, 1956, Bev was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Loftness at the Immanuel Lutheran Church by Reverand R. W. Koepp. They made their home in rural Hector where they raised three children, Cyndi, Kevin, and Pam. Bev tended to her family, her garden, and in later years, worked with Dick at Oakdale Country Club. In 1965, Bev and Dick purchased land on Lake Allie where generations of family will continue to gather. They wintered most years in Florida. They had shared 61 years of marriage when Dick passed away on July 5, 2018.
Bev was an active member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township, rural Hector. She belonged to W.E.L.C.A. and loved to devote her time helping organize church events, especially working in the kitchen. She enjoyed Birthday Club, quilting, and really, any event with friends, family, and a good cup of coffee. She was often found working in the garden, or sitting on a lawn chair reading or watching the swimmers in the lake,
only to frequently holler out, “You’re out too far!” Family was her main joy, and she loved all the family get-togethers at the lake.
Bev passed away on Tuesday evening, May 12, 2026, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center, having reached the age of 89 years. Blessed be our memory of Bev Loftness.
