Obituary
Brian Duane Koelln was born on November 28, 1962, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is the son of Catherine (Suchy) Koelln and the late Carl Koelln. Brian was baptized as an infant on December 9, 1962, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth in Belle River, Minnesota. His parents moved to Osakis in 1974 where Brian and his siblings were raised. He received his education in Osakis and was a graduate of the Osakis High School Class of 1981. Brian furthered his education at Alexandria Technical College. Brian later returned to Alexandria Technical College where he completed his CDL Certification.
On April 16, 1983, Brian was united in marriage to Valerie Jean DeCann at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, Jeremy, Amanda and Andrew. Brian and Val resided in the Osakis area where they both grew up and later moved to Hutchinson in 1985, where they made their home and raised their children. Brian and Val shared 35 years of marriage.
Brian was employed with Hutchinson Technology Inc. as a Maintenance/Engineering Technician. When HTI downsized Brian then took a series of positions including, underground sewer and water, home building, machine operating, and truck driving, before securing a position with 3M where he worked as a Crew Coordinator. Brian truly enjoyed his job with 3M and sadly it was cut short due to his illness. Brian was a member of Hutchinson Fire department. He was also a first responder at HTI and continued with the E-Squad at 3M. Brian was also an active member in the Hutchinson Youth Hockey association where he did both coaching and equipment management.
Brian enjoyed watching NASCAR and he was an avid sports fan, but mostly loved watching football and hockey. He and Val enjoyed spending time with their family and friends at their cabin up north. He cherished the time he got to spend with his family, grandchildren and friends. Though Brian no longer lived on a farm he enjoyed nothing more than helping out friends with any and all farm work.
