Obituary
Carol Ann Louise (Farchmin) Carver was born on January 17, 1937, to Roy and Eleanor (Stoll) Farchmin. Her early years took her from Fairmont to Minneapolis, Howard Lake, New Ulm, and Cedar Rapids. After talking her father into attending college, she enrolled at the University of Iowa where she met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Carver, and discovered her passion for dental hygiene. Following graduation, they settled in Glencoe to open a successful dental practice. Dick was the dentist and Carol served as his dental hygienist. She was known locally as the “tooth lady”, doing presentations in the elementary schools during Dental Health Week. In retirement, she took a leadership role in developing educational materials on the dangers of smoke-free tobacco for the Minnesota Dental Hygiene Association.
Carol was committed to living on the happy side of life, sparking joy wherever she went. A quiet leader, teacher, and friend, Carol will be remembered for her warm and gracious spirit. She was an avid gardener, skilled cook, and model hostess; an athlete at heart who loved the outdoors; and a compassionate friend and listener. Carol loved spending time with family and friends from all facets of her life: junior high and college years; family across the country, including those in Germany and Norway; friends made from spending winters in Arizona; and many dear friends and neighbors in Glencoe.
An early member of Christ Lutheran Church, Carol led the confirmation program for many years, later becoming a member of the Befriender’s team. She was an active volunteer and leader, serving as needed and living into her faith. She believed strongly in the hope and promise of the Gospel.
Most of all, Carol treasured time with her family. Her children remember camping and ski trips that were filled with endless laughter. Bonfires at the North Shore property they shared with her brother and wife. Road trips to Alaska, several with grandchildren in tow. Carol made a point to develop a special bond with each of her children and grandchildren. Her final years were spent sharing an open lap and many hugs with her great-grandchildren. Her true love for family resonates in her final days as she became one of God’s angels knowing her three children were with her.
Carol is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard Carver, and their three children: Cindy of Rochester Hills, MI; Brad (Jeanna) Carver of Soldotna, AK; and Brent (Stacy) Carver of Dallas Center, IA; grandchildren Brook (Jen) Carver; Louise (David) Montag; Blaine (Kendall) Carver; Evan (Ryann) Carver; Christine (Nick) Harder; Cory Carver; Abby Carver; seven great-grandchildren (and one on the way); two dear brothers; as well as numerous extended family members.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Eleanor Farchmin, as well as sister Bernie.
