Obituary
Charlie never met a stranger. He talked to anyone and everyone like an old friend. Charlie passed away on Sunday, January 1st, 2023 at the age of 81.
Charles Eugene Shaw was born on October 25th, 1941 in Buchanan County, Iowa. He was one of many children born to OIiver and Frances Shaw. He served our country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Ryan Shaw on September 7th, 1963.
Charlie was a hard worker. He supported his family as a semi-truck driver. He traveled throughout the country. He said that it wasn’t possible to pick a favorite state as every one was beautiful in some way. He knew the best places for biscuits and gravy by highway mile marker numbers. He was very handy around the house and was famous for his prolific use of RTV silicone as the problem solver. He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing a big garden and sharing its bounty with all. Charlie enjoyed the great outdoors; especially fishing. He loved any gathering and he had always had a story to tell. Charlie loved his family; he especially loved his grandchildren. In his final days, he said he was most proud of his two sons.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his sons Patrick (wife Heather, daughter Haley, grandson Victor, and son Alex) and Matthew (wife Deana and son Ryan). His surviving siblings are Genevieve (Robert) Frentress, Helen (Robert) Manternach, and Iola Millard all of Manchester, IA; Lawrance (Kay) Shaw of Anamosa, IA; David (Elaine) Shaw of Springville, IA; Douglas (Mary) Shaw of Niagara Falls, NY; Charlotte Shaw of Surfside, SC; Joanne Hansel (Jim Bandy) of Dundee, IA; Nancy (Ronald) Savago of Ryan, IA; and Marie Shaw of Manchester, IA.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Oliver and Frances Shaw; his siblings Richard, Francis, Michael, Marjorie, and a sister-in-infancy; brothers-in-law, Glen Millard and Kenneth Hansel; and sister-in-law, Helen Shaw.
Charlie will be missed by all who knew him.

Charlie was a constant friend. He never forgot anyone. His stories were funny. He welcomed all to his home. Combining fishing or hunting with family and friends was a favorite of his.

Matt, Deana and Ryan,
I was saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. Please accept my condolences to all of you. Just an FYI – I have also used RTV silicone on all sorts of things – at my own dads suggestion. Dads are good like that. God bless you all!
Lilli Lanser says
My condolences to the entire Shaw family.

My most heartfelt condolences to the Shaw family and all who knew Charlie!
Charlie was one of my first and best friends I made after moving from Texas to Hutch. We bonded over gardening and outdoor projects, and got together over pizza enjoying his many animated stories. We miss him greatly!
