Charles J. Vacek, age 97, of rural Brownton, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 18, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart.
Interment will be held in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 17, 2016, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Stewart, with Rosary at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the Church on Monday.
Obituary
Charles Joseph Vacek was born February 9, 1919, at his parents’ home in Collins Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles and Anna (Popelka) Vacek. Charles was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart. He received his Kindergarten through 7th grade education at the little round schoolhouse on 212, grade 8 at St. Boniface Catholic School, and graduated from the Glencoe High School.
On September 14, 1946, Charles was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Liska at St. Stanislaus Church in St. Paul. They made their home in Collins Township, rural Brownton, where they raised their children, Charles and Margaret. They shared 65 years of marriage until Dorothy passed away on May 24, 2012.
Charles was a kind and gentle man who devoted his life to the farm, his family, and most importantly, his faith. He spent all of his working years as a farmer, retiring in 1981. Charles enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to the animals and the fields. After retiring, he continued to enjoy helping with the farm work and spending time in his workshop. Charles cherished the time spent with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Charles was strongly rooted in his Catholic faith and was a life-long member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart.
Following a brief stay at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Charles passed away there on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, having reached the age of 97 years. Blessed be his memory.
Charles is survived by his:
Son, Charles M. Vacek and his wife, Barb, of Stewart;
Daughter, Margaret Morelli of Bayfield, Colorado;
Grandchildren: Joseph Vacek (Nikki), Jennifer Rosenau (John), Charles D. Vacek (Erin), Patrick Morelli (Kristina), Jessica Kurtz (Jeremiah), Mary Grack (Tony), Christine Lofgren (LeRoy), David Vacek (Rachel), Melissa Vacek;
20 Great-Grandchildren;
many other relatives and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, and his siblings and their spouses, Monsignor Joseph Vacek, Helen and Bernard Kuttner, Mary and John Popelka.
