Cynthia Barnes age 81, of Gaylord, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Private Services will be held at a later date.
Obituary
Cynthia (Nelson) Barnes was born on August 22, 1934, in Mason City, Iowa, to Milton and Mazie (Stebbins) Nelson. She graduated from Duluth East High School in 1952. Following graduation she attended college at Gulf Park College in Gulfport, Mississippi. Cindy then returned to Minnesota and worked for Northwestern Bell.
On August 18, 1961, Cindy married Quentin Barnes in Edina. The couple lived in Edina before moving to Gaylord in 1968. The marriage was blessed with two daughters. Barney and Cindy were married for 51 years.
Cindy was very active in the Gaylord community. She volunteered at American Lutheran Church, Red Cross Blood Mobile, American Cancer Society, and at Sibley East Public Schools, where she read with students in the first and third grades. Cindy also began story time for the City of Gaylord at American Lutheran Church in 1968.

Amy (Doug) Hickler of Hector, MN;
Grandchildren, Mandy Rischmiller of Forest Lake, Ann (Roger) Hueben of Jordan, Jennifer (Joey) Schauer of Silver Lake, Tom (Gabrielle) Pioske of Hecla, SD, Zach (Jill) Rischmiller of Valley City, ND, Brett Pioske (special friend, Britney Magdal) of Minnetrista, MN;
10 Great-Grandchildren.
Cindy was preceded in death by her Husband, Quentin (Barney) Barnes; Parents, Milton and Mazie Nelson; and Brother, John Nelson.
