Dale Koebnick

Obituary

Dale Vern Koebnick was born on June 13, 1927, on the family farm, northwest of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. He was the son of Heinrich (Henry) and Louisa (Fleming) Koebnick. Dale was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at American Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake.  His faith was very important to him. The family lived on the farm Dale was born until he was 13. The family then moved to the farm his dad had grown up on and also where Dale lived over 70 years of his life. As Dale grew up he enjoyed fishing with his buddies and pitching baseball for the town team. He received his education at Buffalo Lake High School.

On September 21, 1952, Dale was united in marriage to Marion Zabel at Marion’s home in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with two children, Leon and Diane. Dale and Marion resided northwest of Buffalo Lake on the family farm; this farm became a Century Farm in 1992. After retirement in 2010, Dale and Marion moved to Hutchinson. Family was important to Dale and it was a joy for him to spend time together. Dale and Marion shared 66 years of marriage.

Dale had a deep passion for farming and spent his lifetime as a farmer. It was a joy to farm in partnership with his wife, Marion, and later his son, Leon. He started tilling ground at the age of 11 and continued for 75 more seasons. He loved harvesting, but his greatest joy was finishing up with the harvest, tilling ground and putting equipment away. It is fitting that he would leave us as the harvest comes to a close. While on the family farm, Dale and Marion were members of Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, and then became members of Bethlehem United Methodist Church when they moved to Hutchinson.

Family cared for Dale since July, for he could no longer walk and became bedridden. When his condition progressed, he was in Hospice Care at their home in Hutchinson.

Dale passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at his home in Hutchinson, at the age of 91 years.

Grandchildren, Mariah Koebnick and her fiancée, Daniel Friday, of St. Cloud, MN, Mitchel Koebnick, a student at St. Cloud State University, of St. Cloud, MN, Matthew Mergens, a student at Bethel University, of Arden Hills, MN, Rachel Mergens, a student at Woodbury High School, of Woodbury, MN; Many other relatives and friends.

Dale is preceded in death by his Parents, Henry and Louisa Koebnick, two infant twin sisters.
