Darlene Becke, age 81, of Winthrop passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Celebration of Life will be Sunday, September 18, 2022, 2:00 P.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
Obituary
Darlene Mae Becke was born on October 13, 1940, in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Marvin and Thusnelda (Opitz) Witt. Darlene was baptized as an infant at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 11, 1954, at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Gaylord. She received her education in Gaylord and was a graduate of the Gaylord High School Class of 1958.
On November 9, 1960, Darlene was united in marriage to Donald Becke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Transit Township, Sibley County. Darlene was employed as a nurse’s aide in the Gaylord and Winthrop Nursing Homes.
Darlene was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop, the Garden Club and the Winthrop American Legion Auxiliary where she served as President.
Darlene enjoyed being a 4-H Leader, helping her children and grandchildren with 4-H projects.
She had a passion for living on the farm. Keeping busy with a large garden and canning the harvest from it. She also enjoyed mowing lawn and helping with spring and fall field work. Chopping stalks was her favorite. Darlene enjoyed watching TV, quilting, embroidering, and cooking. Recently she had taken to working on jigsaw puzzles with her family and friends at The Lodge of Winthrop. She cherished the time she spent with her family especially her grandchildren.
When she needed assistance with her daily care, Darlene became a resident of The Lodge in Winthrop and later Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson and passed away there on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the age of 81 years. Blessed be her memory.
Darlene is survived by her:
Son, James and his special friend, Kris Kernz of Winthrop;
Daughter, Lori Roiger and her husband, Brent of Winthrop;
Two Grandchildren, Brady Roiger, currently residing in Edina, MN, and Lauren Roiger of Gaylord, MN;
Brother, DuWayne Witt and his wife, Kay of New Ulm;
Sister-in-law, Joanne (Delford) Becke of Edmonds, WA;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

I don’t believe I ever heard this lady ever say a bad word about anyone. She had a love for nature and mankind, a true salt of the earth hard working woman. She has truly earned her reward. Rest well you good humble and servant your work here on earth is done.
