Obituary
David John Wetterling was born on March 20, 1942, in Kensington, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith at First Lutheran Church in Kensington. Dave attended and received his undergraduate diploma at Kensington Pubic Schools. He furthered his education at the University of Minnesota, and graduated with a degree in education.
Dave was united in marriage to Renee Spilseth on June 14, 1964, at Solem Lutheran Church near Kensington. Two children were born to this marriage, Mark David Wetterling and Susan Marie Wetterling.
The couple both taught in Fridley, Minnesota and Little Falls, Minnesota, and then settled in Hutchinson, Minnesota in 1971, where they continue to live today. Following a number of years of teaching in the Hutchinson Public School District, David began a career in finance management at First Federal Bank in Hutchinson. He then started a finance management and investment business with his long-time associate, Deb Roepke, where he continued until his retirement in 2017.
Dave was active in his community and served in several capacities. Among these are: Faith Lutheran Church Council, Hutchinson Utilities Representative, Breezy Point (Surfside) Condominium Association, and Junior High Football Coach for the Hutchinson Public Schools.
For the past year and a half, Dave battled Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Throughout his illness, he continued to live his daily life to its maximum fulfillment, playing golf with his friends everyday possible. His greatest loves were the Lord, his wife Renee, with whom he spent 52 ½ years, Mark and Susan and their spouses, and especially his five grandchildren, Adam, Matt, Ellsie, Henry, and Louie. He enjoyed spending every minute that he could possibly share with them, even driving hundreds of miles to attend their activities and show his loyalty and support for them.
Last Sunday evening, Dave was called from this world to his heavenly home, where he was welcomed with open arms. But to all of us who remember his quiet, steady demeanor, his humor, loyalty, and faithfulness, he will always be with us.

My deepest condolences. Only very fond memories of Mr. Wetterling. A fantastic P.E. teacher and the most down to earth, kind hearted, humorous man with such a hearty laugh. My sister Pam was/is good friends with Sue so I visited the Wetterling home on many occasions. David & Renee were always so welcoming, so loving and the home was always filled with jokes and laughter. Prayers to you all as you mourn the loss of an amazing man.
