Dennis Fenske, age 83, of Winthrop and Lafayette passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Minnesota State Veterans Home in Silver Bay, Minnesota.
Graveside Service will be Tuesday, August 27, 2024, 11:00 A.M. at the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 10:30 A.M.-11:00 A.M. at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop.
Military Honors by the Winthrop Honor Guard.
Obituary
Dennis Fredrick Fenske was born on February 26, 1941, in Gaylord, Minnesota. He was the son of Herbert and Lillian (Messerli) Fenske. Dennis was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop. He received his education in Winthrop and was a graduate of the Winthrop High School Class of 1959.
On September 26, 1963, Dennis entered active military duty in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter (Rifle) Medal. Dennis was Honorably Discharged on September 14, 1966, having achieved the rank of SP5.
Dennis lived in Winthrop and Lafayette. He owned and operated Lafayette Motor Company from 1970-2017. Dennis also operated a wrecker service.
When he needed assistance with his care, Dennis became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay and passed away there on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the age of 83 years.
Dennis is survived by his:
Sister, Janice Peterson;
Sister-in-law, Dzintra “Cindy” Fenske;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends;
Great nieces and great nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his Father, Herbert Fenske; Mother and Step-Father, Lillian (Fenske) and Wilhelm Schrieber; Brother, Dean Fenske; Brother-in-law, Leon Peterson, Nephew, Darwin Fenske; Niece, Susan Fenske.
