Obituary
Dona Mae (Johnson) Wiehr was born on June 12, 1932, in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Rudolph and Mabel (Lyle) Johnson. Dona was baptized as an infant at the Nazarene Church in Redwood Falls, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education in Redwood Falls, and was a graduate of the Redwood Falls High School.
On May 20, 1951, Dona was united in marriage to Marvin Fredrick Wiehr at the Nazarene Church in Redwood Falls. This marriage was blessed with four children, Bob, Roger, Gene, and Brenda. Dona and Marvin made their first home in Ozark, Alabama, for two years while Marvin was in the service at Fort Rucker. They moved to the family farm in Melville Township near Hector, Minnesota, where she enjoyed all her years with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dona and Marvin shared 64 years of marriage prior to the passing of Marvin on June 18, 2015.
Dona enjoyed living on the farm and spending time with the nieces and nephews who would come and stay the summer with her and Marvin and help with the rock picking and pulling weeds in the fields.
Dona was known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies and Christmas cookies, especially the date and raisin filled ones. She was also known for her famous homemade chicken noodle soup on Christmas Eve, and if we were lucky there were leftovers on Christmas Day for whomever could get to the fridge first.
Dona enjoyed traveling with friends, camping up north at Fritz’s Resort and Big Kandiyohi Lake.
Dona was a member of United Methodist Church in Hector. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group and for many years oversaw the Dining Room for the Chicken Pot Pie Suppers.
The family has chosen to have a closed casket funeral service, so you can all remember Dona the way she was the last time you saw her. Inside her casket will be many family photos, a Breezy dog pillow, Valentine teddy bear, and her Bible. Dona passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, at the age of 91 years.
