Obituary
Donald “Don” Lloyd Blum was born on October 15, 1933, in Grafton Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. He was the son of Adolph and Lena (Koebnick) Blum. Donald (Don) was baptized on November 5, 1933, by Rev. C.H. Kowalske and confirmed in his faith on July 4, 1948, by Rev. M.A. Schultz. Both religious ceremonies were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, Minnesota.
On March 26, 1953, Don was united in marriage to Marianna Mavis (Lindeman) Blum also at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart. They made their home on the same farm where Don was born and raised, just south of Stewart. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Anthony (Tony), Carolyn, Michael (Mike) and Gina. Don and Marianna lived on the farm until 1999, when they retired and moved to a home on Long Lake by Grove City. In 2004, they moved to Glencoe, where Don has lived since.
Don farmed, raised livestock and ran a repair shop on the farm. Even after he gave up farming and raising livestock, he continued his work in the repair shop (where the coffee was always “on” for his friends and neighbors). Don was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart. From 1965 to 1982, Don and Marianna belonged to and enjoyed fly-in gatherings of the Flying Farmers.
Don took every opportunity to travel, visiting many different states, Canada and Mexico; as well as enjoying several cruises throughout his lifetime. When closer to home, Don enjoyed playing cards, fishing, deer hunting, doing projects with his hands (building dollhouses for his granddaughters and a grandfather clock that he and Marianna enjoyed) and watching TV. In recent years, Don found his enjoyment in country drives, listening to “old-time” music and keeping up with his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.
Don passed away peacefully on October 27, 2017 at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 84 years and 12 days. Blessed be his memory.
