Douglas Freyholtz, age 87, of Fairfax passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at his home in rural Fairfax.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 24, 2022, 11:00 A.M. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, Renville County, Minnesota, with interment in the church cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be Friday, September 23, 2022, from 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at Emanuel Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Military Honors by the Fairfax Honor Guard.
Obituary
Douglas “Doug” Theo Freyholtz was born on September 14, 1934, in New Ulm, Minnesota. He was the son of Theo and Amanda (Dahms) Freyholtz. Doug was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Wellington Township, Renville County, Minnesota. He received his education in Fairfax and was a graduate of the Fairfax High School Class of 1952.
On November 19, 1957, Doug entered active military service and served his country in the United States Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Sharpshooter (Rifle). Doug was honorable discharged on August 18, 1959.
On July 27, 1960, Doug was united in marriage to Joan Kyar at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Wellington Township. He was a life-long farmer. Doug and Joan were blessed with four children. They shared 56 years of marriage, when Joan passed away on July 11, 2017.
Doug was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township and the VFW Post #8459 and American Legion Post #205 in Fairfax. He served on the Emanuel Lutheran School Board and was the Sexton for the cemetery. He also served as Clerk for Wellington Township from 1980-2008.
Doug enjoyed volunteering at the VA, fishing, time at the lake, mowing his lawn and mowing the road ditches for the township. He cherished the time he spent with his children, especially his grandchildren.
Doug passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at his home in rural Fairfax at the age of 87 years. Blessed be his memory.

Children, Lori Delmonico and her husband, Tom of Lakeville, MN,
Cindy Freyholtz and Troy of Fairfax, MN, and
Bradley Freyholtz and his wife, Naomi of Fairfax, MN;
Seven Grandchildren, Sidney (Joey) Sterner, Ashley (Lukas) Holm, Amelia and Logan Delmonico, Jared Roche, Dylan, and Macy Freyholtz;
Great grandchild arriving in December;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Theo and Amanda Freyholtz; Wife, Joan Freyholtz; Daughter, Christina Freyholtz; Sister, Eva Kyar.
