Service Information
Dr. Paul Leroy “Roy” Hodge, M.D., age 72, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away suddenly Friday morning, July 11, 2014, in Butte, Montana, while attending his 55th High School class reunion.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 1:30 PM at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Hector.
Interment in the Lake Lillian Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Chapel on Saturday.
Memorials in memory of Roy may be made to the McLeod County Historical Society in Hutchinson.
Obituary
Dr. Paul Leroy Hodge was born in Butte, Montana, August 4, 1941, to Leslie and Nel (Foran) Hodge. He attended local schools, graduating from Butte High in 1959. He graduated from MSU in Bozeman, Montana, in 1963, and graduated from medical school at the University of Minnesota in 1967.
Shortly after graduating, he took Marlys Ahlbrecht as his bride in Lake Lillian, Minnesota, on June 17, 1967. After his year of internship at San Bernardino, California, Roy served his country as a physician in the Vietnam War. He received the Silver and Bronze Stars for heroism in the line of duty.
Following his discharge, Roy returned to complete his Pediatric Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. He then went into private practice in Eugene, Oregon, for eight years, and in 1980 moved to Worthington, Minnesota, where he continued his practice in pediatrics. He also provided urgent care in Atlanta, Georgia, and Salt Lake City before retiring. Not only was Roy a dedicated doctor with regards to the health and well-being of children, his journey was a lot about living life to the fullest. He had a wide variety of interests, including traveling, art, antiques, piano, genealogy, gardening, cooking, and more, all of which he was able to enjoy until the time of his death.
Roy is survived by his Wife, Marlys Hodge, of St. Paul, Minnesota;
Daughter, Michelle Hodge, and her Son, Luke, age 4, of Chicago, Illinois;
Son and Daughter-in-law, Tim and Stephanie Hodge, and their Son, Tyler, age 6, of Magnolia, Minnesota;
Son, Lance Hodge of Northern Minnesota;
Sister, Mary Harrington, of Manhattan, Montana;
Nephew, Joe Sundstrom and Cathy Johnson, of Belgrade, Montana;
3 Sisters-in-law;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his Nephew, Nick Pardue, and his Brother-in-law Allen Ahlbrecht. He will be sorely missed by all of his family, friends, and relatives.
