Dr. Richard J. Wallyn, age 97, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Lakeside Generations in Dassel, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 26, 2025, 10:00 A.M., at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Home Glen, Illinois, with interment in Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Glenwood, Illinois.
Obituary
Dr. Richard Wallyn, formerly of Flossmoor, Illinois, and late of Homer Glen, Illinois, passed away on February 21, 2025, at age 97. He is survived by his son, Dr. Christopher (Cathleen), daughters, Mary and Margaret, and Brother, Dr. Robert (Carol), 7 grand and 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife of 16 years, Helen Marie, and Colette, his wife of 47 years, daughters, Ann, Joan, and infants, Jennifer and Susan.
Richard was a graduate of Loyola University Medical School. Following completion of his Internal Medicine residency at Cook County Hospital, Richard served as a Captain in the Army, stationed in Germany for 2 years. During his 34 years at St. James Hospital, Chicago Heights, Illinois, Richard served as Director of the Clinical Sciences Department developing the Cardiology, Respiratory, and Nuclear Medicine services. With his partner, he introduced Hyperbaric Medicine to the community with the first hyperbaric treatment service in the US. In the final six years before retirement, Richard was the Medical Director of the hospital.
