Service Information
E. Mae Barfknecht, age 88, of Gaylord passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Memorial Service will be Wednesday, January 11, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, Minnesota, with interment in the church cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church on Wednesday.
Obituary
Mae (Kroeger) Barfknecht was born on February 3, 1928, in Willmar, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Alfred and Geneva (Rodewald) Kroeger. Mae was baptized as an infant in Willmar, Minnesota, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received her education in Gaylord and was a 1947 graduate of the Gaylord High School.
On February 8, 1953, Mae was united in marriage to Gilbert “Gib” W. Barfknecht at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. After their marriage the couple made their home in Gaylord. Mae and Gib shared 52 years before Gib passed away on January 31, 2005.
Mae was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.
Mae and Gib owned and operated the Gaylord Variety Store for 13 years. She was employed as an Assistant City Clerk for the City of Gaylord for 16 years, retiring in 1995.
Mae enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars and sports games on TV. She enjoyed flowers, collecting antiques, fishing and grouse hunting with Gib.
When she needed assistance with her daily care, Mae became a resident of Harmony River Living Center on April 29, 2015, and passed away there on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at the age of 88 years. Blessed be her memory.
Mae is survived by her:
Sisters-In-Law and Brothers-In-Law, Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mae was preceded in death by her Parents, Alfred and Geneva Kroeger; and Husband, Gib Barfknecht.
