Obituary
Edward “Ed” Lyle Karl was born on February 7, 1926, in Collins Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Joseph Sr. and Fern (Ankeny) Karl. Ed was baptized as an infant at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart, Minnesota, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson. He grew up on a farm near Lakeside in Renville County and attended a nearby Country School.
On June 6, 1946, Ed was united in marriage to Cleo Ann Richards at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. This marriage was blessed with six children, Bruce, Debra, Connie, Richard (Rick), Wendy and Mark. Ed and Cleo resided and raised their young family on their farm in Boon Lake Township, Renville County, Minnesota. Ed and Cleo shared 42 years of marriage until Cleo passed away on February 2, 1989.
Ed was a life-long crop and livestock farmer who worked hard every day. He retired from farming in October 1980 at which time he and Cleo moved to Hutchinson. After retirement, Ed worked for Simonson Lumber for many years. He was a member of the Lakeside Creamery Board, Cedar Mills Lions and also was a 4-H Leader for the Boon Lake Orioles.
After an afternoon of fishing and evening chores done, Ed looked forward to the fish fries with the Bill Karl & Mons families, always followed with a few games of cards. He loved old time music and dancing! He looked forward to the barn dances & later the dances at the schoolhouse enjoyed by family, neighbors and friends. He enjoyed the trips with the mixed up bunch and enjoyed fishing and the time spent at the cabin on Collinwood Lake. Prior to his health changes in late November, you could find him daily at the Hutch Senior Center playing cards which he always looked forward to. Ed's family was important to him and he always appreciated their visits, especially if they included games of cards and sweet treats for him to enjoy.
Ed passed away on Friday January 27, at the Ecumen Pines in Hutchinson, at the age of 90 years. He will be dearly missed.
