Service Information
Eileen Johnson, age 89, of Fairfax, formerly of Hector, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Swedlanda Lutheran Church, Palmyra Township, rural Hector.
Interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday for two hours prior to the service at the Church.
Obituary
Eileen Gladys Johnson was born March 12, 1924, at her parents’ home in Bird Island, Minnesota. She was the daughter of August and Frieda (Sebulson) Erickson. Eileen was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. She grew up in the Lake Lillian area, and graduated from the Willmar High School with the Class of 1943. After graduation, and with the timeframe being WWII, Eileen worked at an aircraft plant in St. Paul constructing war planes, such as B-17s.
On September 30, 1944, Eileen was united in marriage to Layton Johnson at the First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. They made their home in Palmyra Township where they farmed and raised their children. Eileen truly enjoyed her life on the farm.
Eileen was a member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church and an active participant in Ladies Aid. Her faith was very important to her. She loved birds, and she enjoyed cooking, traveling, and visiting with friends. Eileen was an accomplished sewer, and loved to crochet and do needlepoint. She and her husband Layton put on many miles attending school and athletic events of their children, and later, their grandchildren.
In the evening hours of Tuesday, February 4, 2014, Eileen passed away at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis with her family present. She had reached the age of 89 years, 10 months, 21 days.

Carol Ann Johnson of Fairfax,
David Layton Johnson and his wife Judy of Franklin, and
Timothy Lee Johnson and his wife Darlene of Hector;
Grandchildren: Jason Johnson (wife Kara), Jessica Fredrickson (husband Chris), and Jennifer Schmalz (husband Steve);
Great-Grandchildren: Ella, Owen, Rylee, and Madden Schmalz and Sophia Fredrickson;
Sister-in-law Marion Erickson of Willmar;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Layton on July 23, 1994, daughter Mary Jo Johnson, great-grandson Layton Johnson, and by her siblings: Vivian Heroff (John), Alvina Linn (Ceasar), Elder Erickson (Gertrude), Stanley Erickson (Verne), Evangeline Fredrickson (Andrew), Luverne Erickson, Delores Behrendt, Jeanette Gauer, Irene Erickson, and Norma Wicklund (Alton).
