Obituary
Elaine Esther Ruth Spiering was born on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1924, at home in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Emil and Martha (Bullert) Spiering. Elaine was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith by Pastor W.J. Schulze on March 21, 1937 (Palm Sunday), at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Her life was guided by her confirmation verse, “We are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20).
On August 25, 1946, Elaine was united in marriage to Hugo William Saar at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson by Pastor Arthur Koehler. The marriage was blessed with four children: Janice, Glenn, Rodney, and Jeanne. Elaine and Hugo shared 39 years of marriage.
Elaine received her education in the Hutchinson Public Schools and graduated from high school in May 1942 as an Honor Ten student in a class of 110 students, the largest Hutchinson class up to 1942. This class was also the first class to wear caps and gowns. After graduation Elaine worked for the Citizens Insurance Agency until 1947 when she became a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed her faith, family, friends, gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting, making rugs, watching birds, bicycling, and creative recycling. She picked apples at Ewald’s Orchard and delivered Cash Wise day-old bread to Clinton House until she fell in December of 2011. Elaine was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson since 1952. She had been a Hutchinson Auxiliary member.
When Elaine needed help with her daily care, she became a resident of Harmony River Living Center in November of 2013. She passed away there peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2018 having reached the age of 93 years.
Blessed be her memory.
