I’m saddened to hear about Elmer. He was a friend and playmate of mine back in the late 1940s and early 1950s in Hutchinson. We both lived on Grove Street (across from the South Park) and had much fun together, winter and summer for several years. He was a really nice guy!
Carl C. Bloomquist says
On many new year’s eves, Elmer and I would celebrate by firing our shotguns into the air at exactly midnight. Elmer’s home was 3 houses to the north of our home on Grove Street in Hutchinson. Elmer would aim his shotgun up and slightly towards the south and I would aim my shotgun up and slightly towards the north. The goal was to have the shotgun pellets rain down on each other’s yard. I remember a few times Elmer’s shotgun pellets rained down on my yard and once or twice Elmer told me my shotgun’s pellets rained down on his yard. I remember once when we both managed to rain our pellets down on each other’s yards the same year (no wind worked best for that). Elmer was maybe 10 to 13 years old and I was about 12 or 15 years old. Fond memories.
