Elmer Dawson, age 89, of Hopkins, Minnesota, and formerly of Norwood Young America, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday March 11, 2017, at Golden Living Nursing Home in Hopkins, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2017, 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, with interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 9:00 – 10:30 A.M. one and a half hours prior to the service at the church.
Obituary
Elmer Bernard Dawson was born on January 4, 1928, in Lakeville, Minnesota. He was the son of Hugh and Elizabeth (Heller) Dawson. Elmer was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth both at All Saints Catholic Church in Lakeville, Minnesota. He received his education in Lakeville, Minnesota, graduating from the Lakeville High School.
Elmer entered active military service in the United States Army in 1945, and served for two years. In 1950, he entered active military service in the United States Air Force until 1969. Elmer was stationed in many different places through his years of service but spent a lot of time in both Japan and Korea working as a mechanic. After his honorable discharge, Elmer settled in Warner Robins, Georgia, until 1979. He then moved to Norwood Young America, Minnesota, to be nearer to family. He was a member at Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America, where he sang in the church choir and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Elmer was also a member of the VFW and American Legion in Lancaster, California.
Elmer enjoyed music, recording movies, stamp and coin collecting, crossword puzzles, (even creating his own crossword book), computers and traveling. He enjoyed life and loved to be with his family.
Elmer passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Golden Living Nursing Home in Hopkins, Minnesota, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 7 days. Blessed be his memory.

Sister, Dolores Bohlinger of Norwood Young America, MN;
Nieces, Nephews, Other relatives and many friends.
Elmer is preceded in death by his Parents, Hugh and Elizabeth Dawson; Siblings, James Dawson, Marcella Roche, Veronica McGough, Lucille Dawson, Phyllis Lund.
