Elmer Paul Rose

Obituary

Elmer Paul Rose was born on June 4, 1925, in Dryden Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, the son of Otto and Bertha (Bauer) Rose. Shortly thereafter, he was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, by Pastor Gustav J. Mueller. He attended Dryden Parochial School through eighth grade and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord by Pastor Herman J. Winter. He continued his education at Gaylord High School, graduating in 1942. After high school, he decided to stay on the farm, and together with his parents continued to farm there until his marriage.

On September 25, 1946, Elmer was joined in marriage by Pastor L. Wohlfeil to Elaine Panning, the daughter of Arthur and Gertrude (Kroells) Panning of Hamburg, Minnesota, at Emanuel Lutheran Church. They farmed together until they retired in 1988. In 1984, they bought a lake home near Vergas, Minnesota, and spent many happy hours fishing from the dock and their boat. They remained living on the farm until 1995, when they purchased a home in Dassel and continued their retirement there. In March of 2013, Elmer and Elaine moved to Cerenity Care Center-Marian, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Elmer and Elaine greatly enjoyed their years on the farm, and they loved spending time with family and friends. Elmer also enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, and playing the concertina. He served in many capacities in his church, and sang in the mixed and male choirs for many years.

Elmer passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Cerenity Care Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the age of 90 years. Blessed be his memory.

Grandsons, Jonathan (Jennifer) Kegley of Carver, MN, Benjamin (Jessica) Quigley of Montgomery, IL, and Dunham DeRemer of Golden Valley, MN;

Step-Grandson, Michael DeRemer of Minneapolis, MN;

Five Great-Grandchildren, Nolan and Mason Kegley, Ellen, Jacob and Liam Quigley;

Sister-In-Law, Louise (Harold) Panning of Canby, MN;

Many other relatives and friends.

Elmer was preceded in death by his Son, Randall in 1969; Parents, Otto and Bertha Rose; Parents-In-Law, Arthur and Gertrude Panning; Sisters, Alma Frauendienst, Arline Pieschke, Esther Alsleben, and Louise Laabs.
