Elsa E. Selchow

Obituary

Elsa Emma Maria Miller was born on November 12, 1919, in Plato, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Otto and Emma (Dose) Miller. She was baptized on November 23, 1919, and later confirmed in her faith on April 9, 1933, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato, Minnesota by Reverend R. Zwintscher. Her confirmation verse was John 5:24. She attended parochial school through the 8^th grade. After 8^th grade, she helped out many neighbors’ families with chores and housework.

On May 18, 1941, Elsa was united in marriage to Carl Selchow by Reverend Ehlen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato, Minnesota. The couple made their home in rural Plato until 8 years ago when they became residents of Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe, Minnesota. Elsa and Carl’s marriage was blessed with five children, Charles, Stuart, Ethel, Sherrill, and Gail. They shared more than 74 years of marriage together until Carl passed away on January 20, 2016.

She was a homemaker and loved being on the farm. Elsa and Carl did a lot of traveling to visit Gail and family in Michigan and to visit Sherril and family in Phoenix, Arizona. The couple also enjoyed going on road trips and camping at Crosslake with their grandchildren, Neina, Deric, and Kelli. They later purchased a cabin in Menahga, Minnesota, where she enjoyed entertaining family and friends. At the age of 99, she flew with her son, Stuart, and his wife, Jackie to Warroad, Minnesota to visit Ethel and Kelli’s families.

She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota for 80 years and was a big part of their Ladies' Aid group.

Elsa passed away on December 16, 2022, at her home in Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe, Minnesota at the age of 103 years and 34 days. Blessed be her memory.

Elsa is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Selchow; parents, Otto and Emma Miller; parents-in-law, Charles and Frieda Selchow; Brother, Helmuth Miller; Sister Mabel Dammann; 4 sisters-in-law; 6 brothers-in-law.
