Emma Martha Rewerts age 87, of Hutchinson, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be Monday, September 25, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. and Monday, September 25, 2017, from 8:00 A.M.-9:00 A.M. at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials preferred to Peace Lutheran Church.
Obituary
Emma Martha (Boven) Rewerts was born on November 21, 1929, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Dirk H. and Bertha (Beekmann) Boven. Emma was baptized as an infant on April 13, 1930 and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth in 1945 at First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. She received her early education in rural Grundy County, and was a graduate of the Grundy Center High School Class of 1947. Emma furthered her education at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa.
On June 18, 1950, Emma was united in marriage to Edward Henry Rewerts at First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. After their marriage, Emma was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with five daughters, Lorraine, Marcene, Jane, Darlene, and Sandra. Emma and Edward resided and farmed in Grundy County, Iowa and later moved to his Dad’s farm in Boon Lake Township, Renville County, Minnesota. They retired from farming from their own farm in Collinwood Township, Meeker County, Minnesota in 1989. After retirement they moved to their lake home on Lake Washington and then to their present home in Hutchinson, Minnesota in 1996. They shared 60 years of marriage together until Edward passed away on November 16, 2010.
Before Emma had her family, she worked as a bookkeeper in Des Moines and Grundy Center, Iowa. After raising her family she worked for 3M for 20 years.
Emma was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson and was an active member of the Dorcas Club and participated in many of its activities.
Emma enjoyed crocheting for her children and grandchildren. She also made many quilts for her family and for missions. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.
When Emma needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Harmony River Living Center on April 21, 2017, where she passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017, at the age of 87 years.

Grandchildren, Jamie (Greg) Cottom, Darin (Angela) Mielke, Michelle (Keith) Schmeling, Dawn (Jeremy) Strief, Krista Dressel, Daniel Dressel, Eric (Sara) Dressel, Paul (Dani) McRaith, Brett (Patricia) Mielke, Mike Gilmer and his significant other, Markee O’Connell, Megan (Matt) Swanson, and Sarah Gilmer;
21 Great-Grandchildren;
Sister, Luella Freeseman of Parkersburg, IA;
many other relatives and friends.
Emma is preceded in death by her: Parents, Dirk and Bertha Boven; Husband, Edward Rewerts; Daughter, Darlene Marie Rewerts (in a boating accident in 1974); Sister and Brother-In-Law, Marjorie and Delbert Arends; Brother-In-Law, Melvin Freeseman.
