Obituary

Eugene “Gene” Lyle Wolf, a lifelong Minnesota sports enthusiast, devoted Catholic, and cherished family member, passed away on June 12th, 2026, at the age of 60.

Born in Adrian, Gene was baptized there before his family relocated to Jackson, where he was confirmed and graduated from Jackson High School. While high school was difficult for him at times, the coaches and teachers worked hard to help him feel like he belonged, particularly on the football and baseball teams, as the team manager. He eventually settled in St. Paul, where he built a life centered around faith, family, and his love of Minnesota sports—particularly the Twins.

A dedicated baseball fan, Gene attended over 2,400 Minnesota Twins games throughout his lifetime, traveling to nearly all the major league baseball parks some years back to watch a good baseball game. His enthusiasm extended beyond the ballpark; he was an avid collector of baseball cards and Twins memorabilia, and he cherished all Minnesota sports teams. But his greatest joy came from time spent with loved ones. In his younger years, he loved playing cards with his aunts and uncles, and in later years, with his nieces and nephews, creating lasting memories with each hand dealt.

Gene worked for Minnesota Diversified Industries in St. Paul, where he built a meaningful career and friendships along the way. He attended The Church of St. Cecilia in St. Paul, MN. His Catholic faith was central to his life. He often said, "Mass was like Christmas every day," and found solace in his belief that "Jesus helped me cope with my problems." All who knew him understood his limitations, intellectually and physically, though he didn’t let those earthly limitations hold him back. Those in his family readily acknowledged that he taught us how to love. His unwavering faith and resilient spirit inspired all who knew him.

He will forever be remembered as the family sports fan, the messenger of news with his frequent calls to friends and family, and for his courageous words: "I am a survivor, I am going to be ok." These words embodied his strength and optimism amid life's challenges while he lived alone for 38 years.

He cherished being the family messenger, regularly talking with friends and family, and following the sporting events of his family over the years

He is survived by his mother, Mary Wolf of Sioux Falls, SD, brother Terry (Michelle) Wolf of Sioux Falls, SD, sister Deb (Todd) Card Hutchinson, MN. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Isaac Wolf, Jacob (Tori) Wolf; Margaret Wolf; Sam Wolf; Tayla, (Ben and Rell) Hoffman; Tate (Maddie) Card, and Treyton Card.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Wolf, and several aunts and uncles whom he enjoyed spending time with.
