Florence M. Schuelke, age 88, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, formerly of Stewart, Minnesota, passed away April 29, 2015, in Elkhorn.
Francis R. Schuelke, age 91, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, formerly of Stewart, Minnesota, passed away October 25, 2015, in Elkhorn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016, for one hour prior to the service, all at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart.
Interment will be held in the Church Cemetery.
Military Honors will be provided for Francis Schuelke by the DeGree - Fleisch American Legion Post 125 of Stewart.
Obituary
Florence Marie Schuelke, nee Buhr, was born October 26, 1926 in Stewart, MN to Albert and Mary Buhr and she died on April 29, 2015. She was 88. She was the youngest of six. Her father ran the lumberyard in Stewart.
Francis Robert Schuelke was born March 16, 1924 in Nassau, MN and died on October 25, 2015 at the age of 91. He was the son of German immigrant farmers, Frank and Theresa Schuelke, the youngest of five boys.
They are preceded in death by their parents and siblings, Marie Rosenow, Francis (Foby) Buhr, Raymond Buhr, Genevieve Molitor, Norbert and Marcella Schuelke, Joseph Schuelke, Leo Schuelke, and Gervase Schuelke.
Francis and Florence met and fell in love while attending Stewart High School. After graduation, Francis served in the US Navy as a pharmacist’s mate. They married on August 12, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart, MN and were married 68 years. Their love was strong and inspiring to the end.
They lived in Glencoe, MN and had five children. Francis worked as a surgical “nurse” at the Glencoe hospital and later went to work selling investments for a Minneapolis firm. They lived in Jamestown, ND for 15 years. There Florence was the director of the choir at St. James Catholic Church and she also sang and played the organ for countless weddings and funerals. They moved back to Minnesota in the 70’s where Florence worked as a property manager in the Minneapolis area and Francis continued as a stock broker until retirement in the mid 90’s.
After retirement, they enjoyed many years traveling and spent winters in Mesa, AZ. They played lots of golf and bridge. Francis loved bowling, hunting and fishing. Florence was a good cook. She enjoyed books and movies.
In later years they moved to Elkhorn, WI, where they were able to stay comfortably in their home with the help of wonderful caregivers until they passed.
They are survived by their children, Susan Fisher (William Huxhold), Lea Dear (Terrance), Glenn Schuelke (Bonnie), and twins Janice Cox (Robert), and Joanne Bailey (George).
They are also survived by grandchildren Nick and Andy Fisher, Jessica, Rebecca, and Greg Schuelke, Ryan and Rachael Bailey, and Alexis Dear; greatgrandchildren Emersyn, Abby, Charlie, Will, Carter, Eleanor, Zachary, Jacob, Christian, Matias, and Hannah; a host of loving nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Caroline Schuelke of Rochester, MN.
Services will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart on April 23rd at 11:00 AM and they will be buried together in the St. Boniface Cemetery in Stewart, MN.
Memorials can be made to charities benefiting the needy.
