Obituary

Gary Ted Hemmann was born on March 9, 1945, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, to Paul Henry Hemmann and his wife, Helen Edna (Sitz) Hemmann of Hassan Valley Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. Gary was baptized on April 2, 1945, at the home of his parents by Rev. Paul Kuske. He was confirmed on May 17, 1959, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minnesota, by Rev. Donald Buelow. His confirmation verse is Luke 10:42. “One thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” He attended District 56 Grade School and graduated from Hutchinson Public Schools in 1964. Gary and his family were well known for raising and exhibiting purebred Landrace hogs for many years at the McLeod County Fair and Minnesota State Fair.

Gary served in the United States National Guard (Engineer Division) from 1965-1971. Gary was united in marriage to Marjorie Herrmann on October 19, 1968, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, rural Bongards, by Rev. Marion L. Zenke. Their marriage was blessed with 2 children, Melissa and Brandon. They lived in Glencoe for 6 years, then purchased a farm 4 miles northwest of Glencoe in 1974, and then most recently moved to their new home on the Hutchinson farm.

Gary was employed at Green Giant/ Pillsbury Company for 13 years, as a factory filler foreman and a part of the warehouse labeling crew, and also worked part-time driving trucks for Haukos Bros. Implement. Then came farming and raising hogs, farrow to finish, and steers, winning numerous awards at feeder pig shows and the McLeod County Fair, and the Minnesota State Fair.  Gary was employed at Witte Sanitation from January 1999 to January 2004. In previous years he was employed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church as a custodian from August 1992 to March 1999, and then again from February 2004-2008. In retirement, he helped farmers and was employed part-time at Fahey Sales, Glencoe.

Gary was a member of Good Shepherd Church in Glencoe since 1969 where he served on the Finance Board, Board of Education, Board of Trustees, and as a church usher. He has been cutting lawns and trimming shrubs at church for numerous years. He was President and Vice President of the church fellowship club, choir member, President and Vice President of the Aid Association for Lutherans, 4- H Leader for 13 years, and also served on the Mcleod County Pork Producers Board for 8 years. He also served on the McLeod Agriculture Association Board for 6 years. Gary was a member of the American Legion Post #95 in Glencoe. The Hemmanns were awarded the honor of “Farm Family of McLeod County in 1990.”

Gary enjoyed fishing, gardening, and dancing. He also enjoyed woodworking, so much so, that he made his own urn with the help of his son. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and was known to always have baked cookies and banana bread to send home with them.  There was no job too big or small that Gary would not attempt to do.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Gary is survived by his:
Wife, Marjorie Hemmann of Hutchinson, MN;
Children, Melissa Frahm and her husband, Del Mahlum of Sacred Heart, MN,
                Brandon Hemmann and his wife, Karla of Norwood Young America, MN;
Grandchildren, Kyle (wife: Cassie) Frahm of Hutchinson, MN, Kelsey (fiancé: Colton Thieschafer) Frahm of Osakis, MN, Dane Hemmann, and Keira Hemmann of Norwood Young America, MN;
Brother, Norbert (wife: Delores) Hemmann of Glencoe, MN;
Nieces, Nephews, Other Relatives, and Friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Hemmann.
