Service Information
Glenn Novotny, age 79, of Hector, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota.
Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 19, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at First Lutheran Church in Hector, with interment in the Hector City Cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Sunday, December 18, 2016, from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at First Lutheran Church in Hector, and will continue on Monday at 1:00 P.M., for one hour prior to the service, all at First Lutheran Church.
Obituary
Glenn Lloyd Novotny was born May 9, 1937, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of George and Edith (Freberg) Novotny. Glenn grew up in the Hector area, and graduated from the Hector High School. In 1959, he enlisted in the Air National Guard of Minnesota, and was activated into the Air Force Reserves in 1961. He was released from active duty in August of 1962, and completed his service in the Air National Guard in 1968.
On February 8, 1964, Glenn was united in marriage to Judith Carlson in Cokato, Minnesota. They lived in Bird Island briefly before moving to their farm northwest of Hector. Three children were born to them, Julie, Steven, and Mark. They had shared 45 years of marriage when Judy passed away on September 8, 2009. Glenn continued to live on the farm until moving into Prairie View of Hector, and eventually the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Glenn was a farmer all his life. He loved the work and the land, and being home on the farm. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hector. He served on the Buffalo Lake Hector School Board. Glenn traveled throughout the world, and enjoyed family vacations. He enjoyed snowmobiling during the winter months. He was a good listener, and was friends with everyone. Glenn truly loved his family.
On Wednesday, December 14, 2016, Glenn passed away at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center, having reached the age of 79 years. Blessed be his memory.
Glenn is survived by his:
Children: Julie Youngman and her husband Mathew of Chaska,
Steven Novotny and his wife Vicky of Buffalo Lake, and
Mark Novotny and his wife Tina of Hector;
Grandchildren: Natalie Youngman, Kimberly Novotny, Carson Youngman, Jessica Novotny, and Jamie Novotny;
Brother, Ralph Novotny and his wife Marietta of Hector;
Sister, Ginger Kiecker and her husband Robert of Fairfax;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Glenn was preceded in death by his Parents, wife Judy Novotny, and his sister, Doris Higgins and her husband Bob.
Glenn’s family extends an appreciative thank you to all the staff and caregivers at Prairie View of Hector and the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center for their wonderful care given to Glenn.
