Harlan Herbert Wendlandt was born on April 1, 1936, at home in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Herbert and Ella (Grewe) Wendlandt. Harlan was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. He received his education at country school in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota.
Harlan served his country in the National Guards for six years.
On April 17, 1959, Harlan was united in marriage to Ruth Anne Meyer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Transit Township. Harlan and Ruth Anne were blessed with four children. The couple shared 60 years of marriage when Ruth Anne passed away on May 7, 2019.
Harlan was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop. He served on the Transit Township Board, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Council in Penn Township and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Council in Winthrop.
Harlan enjoyed traveling to all the states, especially Alaska where he was stationed in the National Guard. Germany was very exciting for him because he could speak German. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
When he needed assistance with his care, Harlan became a resident of Woodstone Senior Living on October 23, 2019, and passed away there on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the age of 88 years.
