Obituary
Hazel Ila Violet (Quick) Wolff was born on January 14, 1922, to Emil and Martha Quick. She was the fifth of twelve children – nine brothers and two sisters. They lived on a farm in Red Lake County until Hazel was two, when they moved to Wisconsin for seven years before homesteading in the Red River Valley in northern Minnesota.
Hazel lost her mother as a teenager and spent several years helping care for her siblings and father before leaving home at age 22 to pursue a career as a nurse’s aide. She eventually moved to St. Paul and continued her career for over twenty years at the Midway Hospital.
On January 29, 1980, Hazel married Willis Wolff and moved to the family farm in Hector, Minnesota. When Willis retired from farming, they moved to Hutchinson. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and entertaining frequent guests. She was known for being able to have the table spread with numerous snacks and coffee, to a full meal in the matter of minutes of unexpected company arriving. When people marveled at how fast she could put it together when completely unexpected, her lighthearted comment was, “It’s because I was a Quick!” She enjoyed traveling as a young woman and that continued once married. She would often invite nieces, nephews, or grandchildren on a trip.
After Willis had a stroke and needed more care they agreed to move to Burnsville, Minnesota in early 2014. Hazel continued to do all she could to assist in caring for Willis and would often invite the other residents on her floor to come for coffee and goodies. Always caring and bringing joy to those who she saw were alone, she would go for walks and pick the wildflowers or pretty leaves to give to those who could use some cheer.
On November 2, 2014, Willis passed away and Hazel resided in the senior living facility until her Alzheimer disease required additional care and supervision. She moved into memory care the day before the Covid lockdown went into place in March of 2020. On January 14th she had her 100th birthday. She had tested positive for Covid a week earlier, so though she was asymptomatic, it wasn’t recommended to visit. We were looking forward to seeing her when we got the news, she had passed away peacefully the morning of January 17th, 2022.
Hazel is survived by one brother, Victor, sisters-in-law, three stepdaughters, four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their families. She will always be remembered for her caring way and hospitality, and her abiding faith in God.
Due to the current Covid surge, winter roads, and distant family, there will be a traditional memorial service on April 16th, 2022, at 11:00 A.M at the Hutchinson Event Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota. A private visitation for the family will be held prior to a brief gravesite service at the Hector Cemetery on January 21st at 2pm. Those who wish to attend are welcome at the gravesite. Due to health concerns, Covid precautions and social distancing is requested.

Betsy Benz says
To Hazel’s family,
I was truly blessed by knowing and caring for Hazel both at Arbors Ridges assisted living, then again at Arbor Lane memory care. THANK YOU for allowing me to share in a part of her earthly journey!
Some of my favorite memories include:
*being invited into her apartment to see the pictures of her siblings
*watching her chase after a helium balloon, completely forgetting she needed a walker
*getting coffee and cookies ready when she was expecting visitors
*reading letters from loved ones and writing an occassional response
*her giddiness when talking about her brothers
*her gentle spirit and stubborn humility (never wanting to be pampered)
Wishing you peace, knowing she is surrounded by loved ones in Heaven,
Betsy
