Herbert Hennessey, age 83, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment following in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, Minnesota. A prayer service will be at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior the service at the church.
Memorials preferred.
Obituary
Herbert Thomas Hennessey was born on June 27, 1933, in Hector, Minnesota. He was the son of Raymond and Irene (Hopman) Hennessey. Herbert was baptized on July 2, 1933, by Father Rhomas Diehl at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hector, Minnesota, and later was confirmed in the Lutheran faith as an adult on April 12, 1959, by Rev. Fred E. Lehne at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Fernando rural Stewart, Minnesota. He attended country school thru the 8th grade. Herbert entered active military service in the United States Army on May 12, 1953, and served his country in the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge on March 31, 1955.
On October 7, 1959, Herbert was united in marriage to Darlene Penk by Rev. Fred Lehne at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Fernando rural Stewart, Minnesota. Herbert and Darlene made their home in rural Stewart and Glencoe, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Shari, Patti and Kelli. Herbert and Darlene shared over 57 years of marriage.
Herbert farmed in Round Grove Township, McLeod County, Minnesota from 1960 – 1986. Farming was his whole life and loved tilling, planting, and harvesting. Herbert was a dedicated dairy farmer and had a passion for his livestock. Herbert and Darlene took pride in working together with field work and caring for the animals on their farm. He was a member at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota. When Herbert was unable to attend church, he would listen to televised worship by Pastor Katherine Rood from Christ Lutheran Church and “Christian Worship Hour” by Pastor Harold Salem in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Herbert enjoyed bird watching, dancing, listening to country western music, serious card playing, Pinochle, listening to daily weather forecasts, watching western movies and the history channel. His favorite actors were John Wayne, Mel Gibson, Alan Ladd, Sam Elliott, Jimmy Stewart and Robert Duvall. Herbert cherished the time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Herbert passed away on, Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 11 days.

Sorry for the loss of your love one. John 5:28, 29 assures us that Jesus will restore life to those who has died. Revelation 21:3, 4 gives further assurances that death will be swallowed up forever. What a wonderful blessing to look forward to knowing that your loved one is in God’s memory. Hope this thought brings comfort.
