Herman Gustav Schiroo

Obituary

Herman Gustav Schiroo was born July 26, 1918, in Round Grove Township, McLeod County, Minnesota, the son of Herman and Louise (Buehler) Schiroo.  He was baptized August 25, 1918, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Fernando, and was confirmed in his faith on April 9, 1933.  Herman grew up in Round Grove Township.  He attended country school, District 24, which was located west of Fernando. 

In January of 1942, Herman was inducted into the U.S. Army.  He had attained the rank of Corporal when he was Honorably Discharged on April 24, 1945. 

On May 8, 1948, Herman was united in marriage to Margaret Frauendienst at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township, rural Brownton.  Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Kathleen and LaMae. The couple lived and operated a dairy farm in Round Grove Township south of Stewart.  He retired in 1979, and in May of 1994 Herman and Margaret moved to Hutchinson. 

Herman was a lifetime member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Fernando, and had served as a Council member.  He was also a member of the De Gree-Fleisch American Legion Post 125 of Stewart.

Herman loved his cows and farming.  He thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they always brought a smile to his face, followed by a soft chuckle and a slight head shake.

In 2005, Herman moved into the care of Harmony River Living Center where he passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 9, 2015.  He had reached the age of 96 years.  Blessed be his memory.

Herman is survived by his:

Daughters:  Kathleen Bierstedt and her husband, Delroy, of Gaylord, Minnesota, and LaMae Maiers and her husband, Tom, of Stewart, Minnesota;

Grandchildren:  Jeremy Bierstedt and wife Rachel, Angela Honl and husband Bert, Hollie McCann and husband Kevin, Kimberly Maiers, Nathan Maiers and wife Tammy, Jonathan Maiers and wife Kate, and Matthew Maiers and wife Melissa;

Great-Grandchildren:  Jackson and Jayson Bierstedt, Carter, Camden, and Cadence Honl, Miles McCann, Nicholas, William, Bennett, Dylan, Alexandra, Jack, Mason, and Blake Maiers;

Sister-in-law Grace Sabrowsky, Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Herman was preceded in death by his Wife Margaret on April 3, 2001, his Parents, and by his Siblings:  Rudolph Schiroo, Lillie Roepke, Herbert Schiroo, Mabel Rickheim, Clarence Schiroo, Edwin Schiroo, and Lester Schiroo as a young man.
