Service Information
Hilbert “Bert” Gustafson, age 86, of Mankato formerly of Winthrop passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be Monday, February 12, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop with a private family interment in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, February 12, 2018, from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
Memorials preferred to the Winthrop Fire Department or donor’s choice.
Obituary
Hilbert “Bert” George Gustafson was born on January 29, 1932, in Winthrop, Minnesota, to Roy and Ruth (Swenson) Gustafson. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, where he remained a life-long member. He was a 1951 graduate of the Winthrop High School.
On November 28, 1953, Bert was united in marriage to Bernadine Buche at the priest’s home in Gaylord, Minnesota. They raised their family in Winthrop where Hilbert worked at both Mid America Dairy and farmed. Hilbert was a devoted member of the Winthrop Fire Department and the Lions Club. Bert and Bernadine shared 44 years of marriage before she passed away on February 7, 1998.
Bert enjoyed traveling as one of his favorite past times especially spending time in Mexico. He also was a major sports enthusiast for all Minnesota sports teams.
Bert is survived by his:
Sons, Randy Gustafson and his wife, Sandy of Mankato, MN, and
Jack Gustafson and his wife, Trudie of North Mankato, MN;
Grandchildren, Adam (Sara), Colin, Erik, and Grant Gustafson;
Great-Granddaughters, Kaylee, Brooke, and Sofia Gustafson;
Close Friend, Marlene;
Sisters, Marion Frazier of Chicago, IL, and Joan Gustafson of Hutchinson, MN;
Many Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bert was preceded in death by his Parents, Roy and Ruth Gustafson; Wife, Bernadine Gustafson; Sister, Marilyn Ruud and her husband, Robert; Brothers, Donald Gustafson and his wife, Myrtle, Wayne Gustafson, Orall Gustafson; Brother-In-Law, Richard Frazier.
Bert’s family would like to thank all the staff at both Pathstone Living in Mankato and The Lodge in Winthrop for their loving and wonderful care of our Dad and Grandpa.
