Ida Mae (Houck Johnson) Kenning, age 98, of Hutchinson, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017, at her home.
Memorial Service will be Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Vineyard United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
Interment will be held in the Hector City Cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Vineyard United Methodist Church for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Obituary
Ida Mae Kenning was born in Emmington, Illinois, on September 5, 1919, to Arthur and Katherine (Schroeder) Houck. She was the youngest and last surviving of five children: Milford, LaVerne, Viola, LeRoy, and Ida Mae Houck. She moved to Hector, Minnesota, with her family as an infant and spent most of her life in Hector. Ida Mae was baptized as an infant, and confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education at her home area country school.
Ida Mae was married to Alvin Johnson. They had one son, Ronald W. Johnson. She married Charles Kenning in 1977 and moved to Denver where they lived for 17 years. While in Denver, she became a member of the Central Christian Church where she attended the Brown Bag Quilting Group and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. After Charles retired from the dairy business, he and Ida Mae worked for several years as substitute employees at various gas stations. She and Charles enjoyed flower gardening and had a vegetable garden every year. She and Charles returned in 1994 to Hutchinson, Minnesota, and joined the Vineyard Methodist Church.
Ida Mae was a faithful church member her whole life. She is noted for her amazing quilting and needlework, and her delicious cooking. She was a loving mother, wife, aunt, and friend.
In 2012, Ida Mae moved into The Pines in Hutchinson. It was there she passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017, having reached the age of 98 years. Blessed be her memory.
Ida Mae is survived by her:
Son, Ron Johnson of Mankato, Minnesota;
Grandchildren: Todd Johnson and his wife Robyn of Peoria, Arizona, and
Troy Johnson of Mankato, Minnesota;
several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Ida Mae was preceded in death by her Parents, Arthur and Katherine Houck; Husband, Charles Kenning; Daughter-in-law, Sandra Johnson; Brothers: LaVerne, Milford, and LeRoy; and Sister Viola Coco.
