James “Joe” Young

Obituary

James “Joe” Joseph Young was born on January 4, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the adopted son of Charles B. and Clara A. (Nelson) Young. He lived on a farm a mile and a half north east of Fairfax, on the old Ben Schweiss farm. In 1927, his dad purchased a farm six miles south west of Fairfax. On February 16, in cold winter, with snow, they moved into the old log house. He attended school the first spring of 1928, at District #10, which was one mile north of his home. Joe lived in this house until 1937, when his folks built a new home on the north end of the yard. Joe was 15 years old, he did most of the chores and some of the field work, which was done by horses, and that was a lot of hard work. He also helped with the new house, painting and other chores.

On September 3, 1942, Joe entered active military service and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

On May 17, 1948, Joe was united in marriage to Beatrice Fanjoy at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, by Reverend Velte. This union was blessed with two sons. After their marriage, the couple lived in Gibbon for a short time before moving to Minneapolis in 1952, and in 1991 they moved back to Fairfax. Joe owned and operated his own delivery service for Photo’s Inc. Joe and Beatrice shared 58 years of marriage before she passed away on January 5, 2007.

Joe was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfax. He was a member of the Fairfax V.F.W. Post # 8459, and the Fairfax American Legion Post # 205.

Joe enjoyed tinkering, inventing things and going to the casino. He cherished the time he spent with his family and visiting with friends.

Joe passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at his home in Fairfax at the age of 95 years. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Grandchildren, Ryan W. Young and his wife, Susan of Brooklyn, NY, Justin W. Young and his wife, Joanna of NH, and Brooke Walker and her husband, Travis of Minneapolis, MN;
Great-Grandchildren, Javae Carroll, Harrison Walker, Lily Young, Murphy Young and Lucas Young;
Several Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his Adopted Parents, Charles and Clara Young, Wife, Beatrice Young; and Sister, Sally.
