Service Information

John G. Blomer, age 79, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, formerly Kensington, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Prairie Senior Cottages in Hutchinson.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, May 2, 2026, 11:00 A.M – 3:00 P.M. at Rune Stone Park Visitor Center in Kensington, Minnesota

Obituary

John was born on October 6, 1946, in Wheaton, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Alice (Bottineau) Blomer. He received his education in Barrett, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Barrett High School Class of 1964. John furthered his education at Wadena Technical College in the electronics program.

John entered active military service in the United States Air Force. He received a medical discharge.

On February 15, 1969, John was united in marriage to Jean Quinlan at St. Josephs Church in Glasco, New York. This marriage was blessed with three children, Thomas, Kathleen, and Brian. John and Jean resided in Kingston, New York, and later moved to Rochester, Minnesota, then settled in Kensington, Minnesota.

John worked as a grain and cattle farmer. Before his retirement in 2019, John joined the crew at Morris Sealcoat. John was a member of the Kensington Fire Department. He was also a former supervisor for Solem Township in Solem Township, Douglas County, Minnesota.

John enjoyed hunting, bird feeding, and raised bed gardening. One of his favorite pastimes was watching the Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Vikings, and Minnesota Wild. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

John passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Prairie Senior Cottages, in Hutchinson at the age of 79 years.

John is survived by his:
Children, Tom Blomer and his wife, Theresa of Pequot Lakes, MN,
Kathy Vigstol and her husband, Mike of McGregor, MN,
Brian Blomer and his wife, Carrie of Glencoe, MN;
Sisters, Lynda Quaal and her husband, Myron of Little Falls, MN,
Shirley Wicklund of Kensington, MN,
Sandra Lee and her husband, Jeff of Barrett, MN,
Georgia Lunde of Fergus Fall, MN;
Brother, Mike Blomer of Hoffman, MN;
Grandchildren, Ashley Anthony, Katie Anthony, Travis Blomer, Lily Blomer, Tommy Blomer, Lucas Blomer, and Jacob Vigstol;
Great-grandchildren, Ashton Hall, and Grayson Hall;
Many other relatives and friends.

John is preceded in death by his Parents, John and Alice Blomer; former Wife, Jean Quinlan; Parents-in-law, William and Edith Quinlan; Siblings-in-law, John and Connie Quinlan, Harvey Peek, John Lunde; and Bruce Wicklund.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
