Obituary
John Harold Heerdt was born September 13, 1957, at Bratholdt Hospital in Watertown, Minnesota, to Harold and Marie (Mathison) Heerdt. He attended Mayer Public School and graduated from Watertown High School. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown. He passed away suddenly Tuesday, November 29, at his home in Nevis. At the time of his death, he was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Menhaga, Minnesota.
John worked in construction as an equipment operator, did concrete work, drywall, block work, OTR driver, and hauling heavy equipment. His last employer, Minnesota Limited of Bemidji, said he was always on time (in fact, one hour early), dependable, and liked by everyone. He enjoyed attending vintage snowmobile shows and restoring vintage snowmobiles.
He will be missed by many. He was a quiet man unless in the middle of a discussion about snowmobiles or politics and would talk forever. Family was important to him whether his immediate family or his extended family and friends in the Park Rapids, Nevis area.
John is survived by:
two sisters and their husbands, Karen and Howard Hunter of Hector, and
Dianne and Bob VonBerge of Glencoe;
nephews: Robert VonBerge (Dion) of Glencoe, Warren VonBerge (Cathy) of Glencoe, Eric VonBerge of Glencoe, Jeremy Hunter of Burnsville, and Daniel Hunter of St. Paul;
nieces: Michele (VonBerge) Jozwick (Aran) of Hutchinson, and Cheryl VonBerge of Brooklyn Center;
4 great-nephews and 1 great-niece;
aunts, uncles, other relatives, and many close friends and co-workers.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marie Heerdt.

Steve and I have been friends with John for many years, but since the last 10 or 15 years is when we really got to know him. He spent many days over at our cabin in Nevis with family and friends 4Wheeling, fishing, campfires, fish fries and the many snowmobile trips throughout the years. John was a laid back, comfortable person to be around. He was a friend to anyone he met. His wonderful cynical sense of humor will be missed. Last summer we had the opportunity to spend a day of riding in the Paul Bunyan Forest with him and he took us to a beautiful lake tucked away within the forest. We stopped for a while and he said that was one of his favorite places to go. He marveled at the beautiful lake Looking back it was a very special day. I think John is at the special lake in heaven. Thanks for the good times and loyal friendship. We will miss you!
