John J. Flannery, age 77, of rural Henderson, Minnesota, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 15, 2021, 11:00 A.M., at St. Brendan Church in Green Isle, Minnesota, with interment at Assumption Cemetery in Assumption, Minnesota.
Visitation will be Friday, October 15, 2021, from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M., at the church.
Obituary
John Joseph Flannery was born on August 9, 1944, at his home in Washington Lake Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. He was the son of William and Hazel (Doheny) Flannery. John was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth both in Assumption, Minnesota. He received his education in Norwood, Minnesota. John grew up outside of Assumption on his family’s farm. He entered active military service in the United States Army on July 8, 1965. John received an honorable discharge on June 21, 1967.
On April 22, 1972, John was united in marriage to Gloria Lundin at Assumption Catholic Church, Green Isle, Minnesota. John and Gloria made their home in Henderson, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Kristine, Patrick, Joseph and Tracy. John loved raising his family on the farm with his wife, Gloria. John and Gloria shared over 49 years of marriage.
John owned and operated a dairy farm in Jessenland Township. He enjoyed working with his dairy cattle and ended up being one of the last dairy farmers in Jessenland Township. He was a member of St. John Assumption Church.
John didn’t just work with and enjoy his cattle; he also loved his draft horses. He started with a team of Belgians, Duke and Luke. Later, he acquired a team of Percherons, Cassie and Spike. John always enjoyed his John Deere tractors and had his collection of antique tractors, which included a couple that his grandfather purchased brand new once upon a time. He always welcomed a good visit with family, friends and neighbors. He loved country music and especially loved George Jones. He would affectionately refer to him as 'The Possum'. John was a beloved grandfather to 13 grandchildren, all of whom he adored.
John passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021, at his home in rural Henderson, Minnesota, at the age of 77 years.

John was preceded in death by his Parents, William and Hazel Flannery; Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law, Carl Lundin and Lillian Lundin-Anderson; Siblings, William Flannery Jr., Alice Nickerson, Rosemary Nitti, Emma Youle, and Patricia Nitti; Nephews, Thomas Flannery, William Flannery III, Donald Nickerson Jr.; Niece, Amy Youle.
