Obituary
Jon Allen Luthens was born on February 12, 1944, in Litchfield, Minnesota. He was the son of Erwin and Merle (Erickson) Luthens. Jon was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township, Minnesota. He received his education in Cosmos, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Cosmos High School Class of 1962.
Jon made his living and legacy farming, a calling that reflected his deep respect for the land and unwavering work ethic. He found purpose in early mornings, long days, and the quiet satisfaction of a job well done. He never truly retired, always lending a hand on the farm whenever he was needed. His dedication allowed him to care for his family while also leaving a lasting impression of perseverance and humility on everyone who knew him.
Jon lived a life rooted in hard work, simple joys, and deep connection to the land he loved. A lifelong bachelor, he devoted himself to farming, finding peace and purpose in the rhythms of each season. Jon was rarely without his loyal German Shepherd, Shotzie, by his side. He cherished time spent with his mother, including many winters together in Laughlin, Nevada, creating memories he held close. He had a true gift for gardening, cooking, and canning, taking great pride in sharing the fruits of his labor with others.
One of Jon’s greatest joys was his special buddy, Levi. Together they spent countless hours on the farm, where Jon patiently taught him the ropes and passed down his knowledge of gardening and life, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. More recently, he beamed with pride over a little girl named Lily, speaking of her often; though she was still too young to understand, she was deeply loved and already a part of his heart.
Jon passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital at the age of 82 years.
Blessed be his memory.
