Obituary

Karen Leona (Wilkens) Martin was born on June 23, 1939, in Glencoe, Minnesota.  She was the daughter of Herman and Cordelia (Wroge) Wilkens.  Karen was baptized as an infant on July 9, 1939, by Rev. Ruben Ehlin at St. John’s Lutheran Church and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 29, 1953, by Rev. P. Schild at Friedens (County Line) Church in rural Norwood Young America, Minnesota.  She received her education in Norwood Young America graduating from Central High School.

On November 29, 1958, Karen was united in marriage to Homer Martin at Friedens (County Line) Church.  Karen and Homer made their home on their farm in Plato, Minnesota, for 59 years.  Their marriage was blessed with four daughters, Kimberly, Kristin, Kari and Kelliann.  Karen and Homer shared over 59 years of marriage together. 

In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Karen also worked at Pinske’s in Plato, Green Giant, Bumps, Town & County and Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe and 3M in Hutchinson.  She was an active member of Friedens (County Line) Church in rural Norwood Young America, where she served on the Ladies Aid.

Karen was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking.  She also loved music including old time music, country music and anything by Johnny Cash.  Karen liked to watch Wheel of Fortune, play cards and take lots and lots of pictures at family gatherings.  She treasured the time spent with family and friends.

Karen passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 11 days.
