Karl Richard Kuphal, age 84, of Gaylord, Minnesota, husband of Susan, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Private Family Service will be held at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, Minnesota.
Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, Minnesota.
Obituary
Karl Richard Kuphal was born on May, 7th 1940 in Gaylord, Minnesota. He was the son of Esther and Martin A. Kuphal. He attended Immanual Lutheran School 1st – 8th grade, then attended Gaylord High School.
On August 31, 1960, Karl married Susan Hendrycks at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Gaylord. Karl served in the U.S. Army from 1960 -1963, he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas and Ford Ord, California after honorary discharge from the Service.
Karl worked for Borchert Produce from 1963-1967. Then he went into the construction business for the rest of his lifetime.
Karl was very active in the Gaylord Community. Past President of the Gaylord JC’s and City Council. An HRA member for a number of years. An active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Karl enjoyed playing cards with his relatives and spending time with his family and friends. His passion was in woodworking.
Karl is survived by his wife, Susan of Gaylord, and his four daughters, Kris Herd and her late husband Mike of Gaylord, Karla and Kevin Schumacher of Prior Lake, Kari and Kirk Miller of Glencoe, Kelli and Doug Koenen of Savage; Karl had 9 grandchildren, Zach Herd of St. Bonifacius, Lucas and wife Emily of New Prague, Seth Schumacher of Prior Lake, Alicia Schumacher of Prior Lake, Tate Schumacher of Prior Lake, Kyler Anderson and wife Ellen of Orono, Keaton Anderson and his fiancé Carly Nicholson of Waconia, Taylor Koenen of Charlotte, NC, Tanner Koenen of Savage; five great grandchildren, Keller and Kayson Herd, Crosby Schumacher, Beau and Griffin Anderson; sister Doris Martens; sisters-in-law, Janette Kuphal, Elizabeth Kuphal, LuAnn Kuphal, Lorna Kuphal and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Karl is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Esther Kuphal; Sister Delores Swanson; brothers, Irwin Kuphal, Martin Jr. Kuphal, Sidney Kuphal, Marvin Kuphal and Albert Kuphal; father-in-law Maurice Hendrycks, mother-in-law Marie Hendrycks, son-in-law Mike Herd, sister-in-law Janice Kuphal; brothers- in-law, Alton Swanson and Kenny Martens.
